My Writing Process
What if one could boil both mass appeal and critical approval down to a science? Most writers write based on personal experience or preference. My process begins with box office analytics.
By analyzing box office trends and differentiating between concepts with lasting appeal vs fad concepts, I can begin my process on a more solid foundation, with greater assurance of appeal.
But I don't simply rehash things that work. As musicians borrow elements from other genres to expand their sound, I specialize in hybrid concepts, fusing together multiple bankable concepts.
The hybrid-concept not only ensures continued interest in the original concept, but also serves to draw multiple audiences for greater appeal. Past examples are zombie comedy, teen vampire.
These hybrids hardly seem like critical masterpieces but that's where my talents come into play. I am a classically trained writer with a B.A. in comparative literature from Columbia University.
In my writing, I adapt the classic mythic structure (The Writer's Journey) to modern sentiments in order to capture well-rounded characters, deep, relatable conflicts, and powerful resolutions.
The final product is something simultaneously old and new, stirring a powerful combination of comfort and excitement among multiple markets, yet written for the most discerning of critics.
